Herbs of the Month: Cinnamon, Berberine & Black Walnut

This month I’ve been focusing on gut-cleansing support. I’ve been taking berberine and black walnut in capsule form and pairing it with cinnamon tea in the morning and evening. Together, these work beautifully:

  • Berberine supports microbial balance and healthy blood sugar.

  • Black walnut has strong antimicrobial and cleansing properties.

  • Cinnamon is warming, antispasmodic, and a gorgeous circulatory stimulant — perfect for calming cramps and balancing blood sugar.

Biphasic Moon Syncing with Herbs

Biphasic syncing means aligning with the new moon and full moon phases — a practice that supports both your cycle and your energy.

  • New Moon (follicular/ovulatory energy): focus on building and creativity → herbs like schisandra and shatavari help nourish yin and restore vitality.

  • Full Moon (luteal/menstrual energy): a time of release and reflection → herbs like chamomile, rose, and cramp bark soothe the nervous system and ease tension.
Think of it as ebb and flow — herbs shifting with your inner tides.

Recipe of the Month: Green Chicken Curry

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 500 g free-range chicken breast or thigh, sliced

  • 2 x zucchini, chopped

  • 1 broccolini bunch

  • 1 bunch fresh coriander (cilantro)

  • 1 handful Thai basil leaves

  • 2 kaffir lime leaves (optional)

  • 1 can coconut milk (400 ml)

  • 2 tbsp green curry paste (look for one with no thickeners)

  • 1 tbsp fish sauce

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 1/2 quinoa, 1/2 brown rice

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan, add curry paste, and sauté until fragrant.

  2. Pour in coconut milk, lime leaves, and simmer for 10 minutes.

  3. Add zucchini, beans, and broccoli & chicken → cook until tender but still bright green.

  4. Steam rice & quinoa (sometimes ill use cauliflower rice)

  5. Finish with fresh coriander, Thai basil, and lime juice.

Benefits:

  • High in protein and phytonutrients.

  • Rich in anti-inflammatory herbs like coriander and basil.

  • Light on the gut without flour, cream, or starch thickeners.

  • Balanced and warming — perfect as a nourishing evening meal.

Lion’s Gate Portal (8/8)

The Lion’s Gate Portal happens every year on August 8th. Spiritually, it’s seen as an energetic gateway — a time of heightened creativity, intuition, and manifestation.

What I practiced during Lion’s Gate:

  • Journaling intentions → write down the goals, feelings, experiences & dream life.

  • Meditation + breathwork → especially heart-opening practices, sound healing.

Even if you’re not into astrology, treating this day as a “reset button” — to pause, reflect, and set intentions — can be grounding and empowering.

Castor Oil Liver Compresses

Castor oil packs are famous for supporting liver detoxification and circulation. A simple liver compress involves soaking flannel in castor oil, placing it over the right upper abdomen, and applying gentle heat for 30–45 minutes. (honestly I just lay it on thick with no compress and rub it in)
Why? It boosts lymphatic flow, supports hormone clearance (especially excess estrogen), and can ease abdominal tension. Use 2–3 times per week during your follicular phase for best results.

Sacral Chakra Opening & Womb Hara Massage

So I had never heard of this before, but often feel as though my sacral chakra is blocked - so got this done for the first time and loved it!!

The sacral chakra is the centre of creativity, sexuality, and flow. When it feels blocked, you might notice pelvic tension, low libido, or feeling “stuck.”
Try:

  • Hip circles or figure-eights (5 minutes daily).

  • Pelvic floor relaxation — focus on letting go in childs-pose or happy baby.

  • Womb Hara Massage — gentle abdominal massage that encourages blood flow, hormone balance, and emotional release.
